Another email, sorry- but important info!!!!

Hello from Dolphin Headquarters!!

Our first two practices have been great and we are ready for our IN-HOUSE meet this Saturday.  This will be a great opportunity for new families to see what it is all about- and for veteran families to eat Dolphin Diner food that you have been thinking about and drooling over since last July!!  So, speaking of, everyone, come hungry, and bring your cash- the great news- we will have breakfast (egg sandwiches and donuts) and lunch available (taco in a bag, hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork), drinks (I meant water, soda, and Gatorade, you booze hounds...), candy, SNOW CONES, and so much more!!

Families will want to bring camping chairs to the meet as most of the deck furniture is stacked up to make room for everyone!

Some buddies were already emailed out- and others will be given tomorrow and later! (my to -do list is longer than my CVS receipt!) Buddy bags should be given out at our two July meets- (not this Saturday!).  Buddies will get to be paired at the Spaghetti dinner and at Saturday's meet!

Our volunteer jobs are filling up nicely...BUT there are still a few empty positions.  We need two volunteers for the Clerk of Course!  What is the clerk of course, you ask?

CLERK OF COURSE

The clerk of course organizes the swimmers before their races. Two parents work together, along with clerks from the other team, to ensure that the swimmers:

  • Are present at the clerk of course prior to their races.
  • Are lined up in the proper order in the chairs in the clerk of course.
  • Are ready to swim their events.
  • Move appropriately through the rows of seats and to their starting blocks before the race.
  • The lineup of swimmers is provided to each clerk at the beginning of the meet.

The clerks work in teams of two for half of the meet. Their job is important, because it is absolutely essential that the swimmers proceed to the proper lane assignments and swim in the correct event.

We are also in need of timers for the second half of the meet!!

TIMER

Description: Timers use battery-operated stopwatches to time the races. Both teams supply timers, with two timers assigned to each lane. Timers work half a meet, with the shift change occurring halfway through.

  • Timers must arrive a half-hour before the start of the meet (8:30) for a meeting with the CMSL league official. The official will review the general rules of timing and make sure all of the stopwatches work.
  • One timer in each lane will also use a clipboard and pre-printed papers to record the times from both stopwatches. Papers will be collected periodically. This timer should also verify the identity of the swimmer.
  • Each timer clears his/her watch as the race is being called by the announcer, starts the watch on the "flash" of the starting box (not the horn), checks the watch to see if he/she got a good start, and then stops the watch at the first touch by the swimmer at the end of the race. Backup watches are available if you happen to fall asleep on the job for a minute or get distracted.

Benefits: Standing next to a body of water holding a watch is a great way to pass a summer morning, right? Seriously, you never miss a race, it's the most exciting place to be, and the time passes quickly. You're in a great spot to cheer not only for your own children, but also for the swimmers in your lane. (my personal favorite job is to time- it is especially fun to make it a game and see if you and the other timer can get the finish to the exact millisecond.

Lastly, please be sure to rsvp for the spaghetti dinner!!  There are also some empty items to bring, so please fill them as we cant have anyone leave hungry!!!

Note- there will not be a Fun Friday tomorrow due to the Spaghetti Dinner- our first Fun Friday will be NEXT FRIDAY!!! :)

and...if you haven't yet paid for the season, now is a really, really, really great time to!!!!  Please bring cash in an envelope or a check and give it to me asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!!  We can't wait to see everyone at practice tomorrow, at the spaghetti dinner on Friday, and at our meet on Saturday!!!  Best weekend ever!!

Happy early Father's Day to all the dads out there, too!!

Let's go Dolphins!!  Please email us with any questions.  Email Coach Briana with all things swim- and email me at [email protected] with other questions!!
